Health and Safety at work represents today one of the most important and advanced fields of the social policy of the European Union.
Despite European resolutions and directives on personal protective equipment and workplace safety, and despite national laws and workplace regulations, accidents at work, injuries, diseases and dangerous occurrences still are a serious problem in many Member states, and the topic remains one of the priority in order to assure workplace safety and quality.
According to the COUNCIL DIRECTIVE of 12 June 1989, on the introduction of measures to encourage improvements in the safety and health of workers at work, the RECOMANDATION 2007/C 164/01 on prevention of accidents and promotion of safety, the RECOMANDATION 2003/134/CE Enhancing the protection of health and the safety at work of the autonomous workers, information and training of workers represent a legal obligation for the employers. Moreover they are universally recognized as effective measures to improve workplace health and safety and mitigate hazards for workers. Nevertheless to be really effective training must be target tailored and must take into account problems such us indifference and opposition of workers.
This project will tackle some issues relevant to the effective involvement of workers in training on workplace safety in the sector of cleaning services.
The objective of the project is to adapt, improve and transfer from Lazio region to other Italian and European Regions an audiovisual innovative tool for training on safety for national and migrant workers. This tool and methodology has been created by Oltremodo, a company whose Member are cooperatives, acting in the media field in cooperation with the cooperative Colaser acting in the field of cleaning services.
The audiovisual training course presents, in an innovative way, clear and exhaustive information about risk at workplace and suggestion on correct and safe dealings. It could improve the effectiveness the quality and the attractiveness of the trainings on safety at workplace.
The product to be transferred: "The Adventures of Olga and Nino" It is an innovative multimedia training product focused on the European standard for safety in the workplace and on the national legislation transposing European standards, the Legislative Decree no. 81/08.
The video-course has been drafted and engineered to face effectively the risks associated with underestimation of risk by workers, stressing in a fun way, and at the same time with precision and clarity, the behavior to prevent and the correct work procedures.
It consists of six didactic modules each focusing on a specific risk activity (use of chemicals, use of electric tools, environmental risks, risk of slippage, risk of falls from above, attention to the unexpected event), and built on a series of "gag" performed by a professional actor and commented by a worker-actress who reports the errors, indicating the right way to operate.
The simple and natural language, the communicative power of images and special effects and the entertaining style, aims to stimulate the curiosity of the worker and to keep alive his attention to overcoming the "psychological resistance" that often come into play in using audiovisual tools for a teaching purposes.
